Navratri in Porbandar is widely respected for maintaining the purity of Saurashtra’s folk dance forms, often untouched by the commercial “disco” trends of larger cities. The atmosphere is one of pure devotion mixed with communal joy, lasting late into the night for all nine nights.

While most of India celebrates in streets and courtyards, Porbandar’s youth and the local Kharva (Fishermen) community head to the shoreline for a massive open-air party.
